The lifespan of stone, so much greater than that of wood, metal, plastic or human, allows a far more tangible experience of the passage of centuries and millennia: how the elements and human activity have eroded and dismantled the structures in imperceptible increments; how they no longer project an attitude of dominance, but rise carefully out of the landscape, offering delightful places for light to play and plants to lodge.
