WITHIN THE SACRED GROVE
The dedicated area of land surrounding the temple, the temenos, usually comprised the largest part of a sanctuary.
Pilgrims and refugees might safely camp there, resident servants of the deity could be glimpsed in the midst of normal daily tasks.
Wild flora and fauna would abound in the safe space, but domestic animals and aggressive soldiers were forbidden from invading the grounds.
Such an unstructured safe space elicits so much wild beauty in my mind.
