An Earring For The Goddess Of The East #4
An Earring For The Goddess Of The East #4
linoleum monoprint on paper
10 x 7"
2003

The "Earring Goddess" series was inspired by an early 10th c. Sanskrit poem written by "Vidya" (this is all I know)
An English translation by D.H.H. Ingalls reads:
I praise the disk of the rising sun,
red as a parrot's beak, sharp-rayed,
friend of the lotus grove,
an earring for the goddess of the east.

The english translation is phonetically transcribed on the left side of the image, in an "alphabet" synthesized from ancient Greek Linear B, and Egyptian and Mayan hieroglyphs.
